The Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) provides representation that is essential in today’s rapidly changing health care environment.   With its mission of representing doctors of chiropractic throughout the state, the ICS also provides DCs several avenues to enhance their sense of community and knowledge through its vast offering of education and networking events.  The extent of information and support that’s available to ICS members is presented through many platforms and is invaluable in informing DC's about the current scope of their practice and other important topics.

The ICS represents all doctors of chiropractic by advocating on their behalf at all levels of government.  By reviewing thousands of bills that are introduced at the Statehouse annually, the highly-informed ICS staff maintains constant awareness of issues that alter healthcare and pertain to chiropractic.  As the ICS Director of Government Relations Lindsay Wagahoff states, “the ICS advocates the importance and value of chiropractic in Illinois.” Through fostering the relations between DCs and their government representatives, the ICS presents a view of the full scope of chiropractic.

Through membership, the ICS is able to provide an abundance of resources that strengthens the chiropractic profession throughout Illinois.  In addition to its staff working daily to support and promote chiropractic, the ICS keeps members informed through resources such as the ICS website, staff support, the Advantage newsletter, continuous late breaking news via its social media presence, and the newly established “Illinois Practice Edge” weekly e-news publication with current articles and information. Providing members with these platforms strengthens the relationship between ICS and its members; and is essential in the evolution of the chiropractic profession.

With over 30 annual education/networking events, the ICS presents its members with topics that cover a wide range of issues that currently concern the practice of chiropractic, such as Medicare, HIPAA, bill coding, and documentation.  Additionally, the CME Weekly e-news publication continually updates ICS members on upcoming events.  Over 2,400 DCs and staff attended ICS education/networking events in 2016; as the ICS Director of Education and Events Dawn Burchett states, “These events are “a great opportunity to interact with chiropractic peers about the state of chiropractic in Illinois.” While the educational value of ICS membership is unquestionable, the monetary value is apparent, as well.  By utilizing ICS’ online education library, General members have the potential to earn all 60 hours of Formal Category 1 CME hours at an average of $11.66 per hour.

Most importantly, the involvement and support of ICS members is essential in strengthening the chiropractic profession.  By working together, we will continue to improve chiropractic in Illinois.
