Dr. Jack Struck

DU QUOIN — Dr. Jack J. Struck, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St, Louis.


Jack was born May 14, 1931, in De Soto, a son to Herman Oscar and Edna May (Griffith) Struck.


In 1954, he married Dorothy “Eloise” Dearing in Du Quoin, and she preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1980.


Jack was a veteran of the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant in the Korean War.


He was a chiropractor and farmer for over 57 years in Du Quoin.


He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin.


He was also a member of Rotary Club, Elks Club, and American Legion. He was police and fire commissioner and economic developing director of Du Quoin. He was a member of the Illinois State Chiropractic Society and was honored as the Chiropractor of the Year for that organization. He was the Citizen of the Year in Du Quoin and served as the mayor of Du Quoin from 1965 until 1973. He especially loved farming and the city of Du Quoin.


Survivors include his son, Scott (Michelle) Struck of Springfield; one daughter, Michelle Struck of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Hannah and Sarah Struck; and long time companion, Molly Newman of Du Quoin.


He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Rosemary McCord.


Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, in Pyatt Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.


Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
