ICS Visits Chiropractic Colleges

ICS Visits Chiropractic Colleges

The Congress of Chiropractic State Associations (COCSA) coordinated an initiative for various state associations to visit chiropractic colleges. COCSA invited state associations to visit the National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois in February and Logan Chiropractic College in St. Charles, Missouri in April.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society (ICS) was joined in both visits by the Wisconsin Chiropractic Association, Michigan Association of Chiropractors, Ohio State Chiropractic Association, Missouri State Chiropractors Association, and the Iowa Chiropractic Society.

Our day at each campus consisted of a meeting with university administrators, a campus tour, and a panel discussion with the students.

Learning from Current Practicing Doctors

One of the exciting parts for the students was the ability to listen and learn from a current practicing chiropractic physician. Dr. Vijay Patel, Illinois Chiropractic Society board member, gave a presentation to the National University of Health Sciences students about what to expect after graduation and about Dr. Patel’s journey culminating in owning his own practice.

Dr. Brandon Steele, Illinois Chiropractic Society board member, gave a presentation to the students at Logan Chiropractic College about his own journey as a chiropractic physician and tips on practicing chiropractic after graduation.

The panel discussion with the chiropractic students allowed them the opportunity to learn from their state associations and to gather the information that is important but may be difficult to obtain.

The ICS was able to answer questions regarding the scope of practice, the importance of state associations, and various licensure questions. The ICS believes in the importance of spending time with upcoming graduates is an important investment in the future of the chiropractic profession.

The ICS will be doing a similar visit at Palmer Chiropractic College in July. We look forward to these visits to provide students with critical information during their education about the practice of chiropractic in each state.
