What prospects may not know about the ICS?

Benefits that prospects may not know about:

  • The Illinois Chiropractic Society has an agreement with Medova Health Care to provide an affordable health insurance option for our members and their staff,
  • All ICS webinars and online education are free to ICS members. 24 webinars a year and more than 20 new courses added online every year.

Several ICS initiatives have passed, taking on insurance companies, addressing critical delegation problems, and multiple bills that provide continued chiropractic/medical doctor parity:

  • Passed legislation legalizing a chiropractic physician's authority to delegate tasks to assistants, superseding previous adverse regulatory opinions,
  • Added a chiropractic member of the state board of health,
  • Led the campaign to bring the first limits to insurance recoupment practices (enacting an 18 month time limit),
  • Clarified our scope and secured our physicians' authority to advise patients on non-prescription products as well as to administer atmospheric oxygen,
  • Began work on limiting co-pay requirements to ensure they cannot exceed 50% of the patient’s total bill,
  • Many other profession critical issues.

We are working on solving issues with several insurance companies. Currently we are working on issues surrounding BCBS-IL, OptumHealth, Cigna (State of Illinois Employees Plan), ASHN, and others.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society and your colleagues are making a difference in Illinois for our patients and chiropractic through our 18% by 2018 efforts. We can all agree that the vast majority of people do not see a chiropractic physician... and the overall health of Illinois would improve with increased utilization.

In fact, most studies show that the percentage of Illinoisans under the care of a chiropractic physician is less than 10% (CDC/NCHS, National Health Interview Survey, 2012 - indicates only 9.5% have visited once in 12 months) 1. The Illinois Chiropractic Society is changing this statistic - by 2018, 18% of our state will be chiropractic patients.

The ICS represents Illinois’ doctors on a variety of insurance committees, and we take part in lawsuits when the need arises.

We are working hard to improve the relationship between our legislators in Springfield and the chiropractic profession by holding annual Capitol Conference lobby days. The ICS is offering the unique opportunity to put chiropractors in the same room with their area legislators to discuss their current concerns and legislation before the General Assembly.

We understand that money is tight; that is why we offer a variety of ways and installment plans to help make it easier to pay (or spread out) the cost of ICS membership.

The Illinois Chiropractic Society is bringing some of the very best speakers on health and the chiropractic profession to our Conventions, Symposiums, and Classes across the state.

The ICS works to help chiropractors’ practice and bottom line by holding seminars on Medicare, Physician Quality Reporting Incentive (PQRI), Chiropractic Coding, and Advertising to make each practice as successful as possible without spending a lot of money.

We are working on expansion of Medicaid to increase reimbursement, scope, and access to care from chiropractic physicians.
